Disney Fusion 5

Our family blog about Disney–Travel, Crafts, Art, and More

We are Don and Micki, and along with our three children, we make up Disney Fusion 5.  In general, this site is about “Disney”. Besides the many trips to Walt Disney World (as well as other Disney related places), which have provided us with many great vacation memories, Disney has influenced our lives in other ways as well.  We want to use this site to share fun and interesting information including tips and tricks that we have learned over the years in our Disney travels. We also plan on sharing a weekly, Disney-inspired craft, as well as other Disney and non-Disney inspired posts as we move forward.  We would love to hear from you, so please feel free to send us your questions and comments.

About Us

Why another Disney Blog?  The short answer–we have a lot of fun talking about pretty much anything Disney.  The longer (but still pretty short) answer–we feel that we have learned a lot of great information over the years and believe this would be a great forum to share some of this information with others.  Besides having some fun, we hope that we can provide helpful (and possibly inspirational) information from varied perspectives. Below is how each of our love of Disney started, which occurred in very different ways.

Micki

I grew up Disney. My first trip to Disney World was when I was three years old, and since then, I have traveled to Walt Disney World over 30 times, and I have been to Disneyland twice.

Obviously, I remember nothing from that first trip, and I’ll admit to mixing trips together in my head, but I wouldn’t trade one single minute!  When we first started going to Disney, it was a one- or two-day experience–there was only the Magic Kingdom. By the time we were going annually, EPCOT had opened, then Hollywood Studios (MGM), but Magic Kingdom still reigned supreme in our house.  My mom still refers to Disney Springs as the “Shopping Village” (I can’t talk; I still say Downtown Disney). We had Disney in our house all the time; we watched the movies, wore the clothes, and we had souvenirs scattered around the house.

I have so many memories and favorite things about Disney.  I can’t even tell you how happy I am that I found someone who not just tolerated my Disney obsession, but embraced it.  We have raised our three children on Disney, and each has been once or twice a year since they have been born.

I’m also a crafter, and I love to scrapbook, take pictures, crochet, and basically find any way to be creative. I’m a Pinterest junkie, and can’t possibly recreate everything I’ve pinned on my boards!

As an adult Disney addict, I get teased and questioned consistently about why we continue to go to the same place every year for vacation.  “Doesn’t it get boring?” Absolutely not! There is always something new, and each trip has its own “vibe” (to quote my daughter). Each year we try to inject a little something for the kids to make it different than any other year (and we’ll talk about that more in the blog).

Don

I did not grow up in a “Disney” household.  Although we knew of Mickey Mouse and watched a Disney movie here and there, it was not something that was at the forefront.  However, we did go on a trip to Florida, which included a day at the Magic Kingdom when I was 11 years old. I still vividly remember parts of that visit to this very day, especially how exhausted everyone was as we boarded the Ferry back to the parking lot.  This was the last time I went to Walt Disney World before Micki and I went on our honeymoon in 2000 (thankfully, the world didn’t implode due to Y2K).

Where I first began to get the Disney Bug was in 1995 when I saw Toy Story at the theater for the first time.  For reasons I can’t really explain, I was mesmerized. Here I was, a 21 year old man, totally enthralled by this new, wonderful animation process with a top notch story to boot.  After this (and mainly as a husband and father), I began to examine and re-examine Disney movies from a different perspective and became enamored with the wonderful storytelling that holds both an entertainment value while exhibiting a positive message.

As much as I came to enjoy Disney movies, where I really caught the Disney Bug was on our honeymoon in the summer of 2000.  We enjoyed the trip so much that we became Disney Vacation Club members in October of that year, and I have now been to Walt Disney World over 20 times.  Even with the countless times we have heard in the past, “you’re going there again”, it never gets old, and as much as I love going to Walt Disney World, I enjoy planning the trips just as much.  Just ask my daughters, who once jokingly asked for a printed itinerary for an upcoming trip–they received one a few days before we left. Now, the itineraries have become expected, which I happily produce.  As you can see, I am excited about Disney, especially Walt Disney World, and I look forward to sharing some of the things that we have learned over the years as well as what we will experience in the future.
